The world of martial arts is filled with mysticism, legend and super-human feats. In today's secular studios, students are taught they can accomplish anything because of their own intestinal fortitude, or belief that each person controls their destiny.
By having a personal relationship with Christ, a person is capable of becoming more than relying solely upon oneself. Each class, we discuss "WWJD" (what would Jesus do) and how we can exemplify his love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control in our own lives.... martial arts is simply our conduit. See 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 and Galatians 5:22-23.
The study of martial arts is considered an individual activity that requires intense discipline physically and mentally. An unspoken truth surrounding the martial arts community is the importance of the spiritual aspect of training. In essence, where "is" your spirit-directed during your training? Is it inward to some yearning of the unknown, esoteric, or undiscoverable depth of your soul, or is it outward - toward seeking to serve others through a personal and spiritual walk with Christ?
At some point in each person's training, we are confronted with a multitude of questions including the compatibility of philosophies, "learning to fight" rather than turning the other cheek, or living at peace with all people as identified in Romans 12:18 and Matthew 5:38-40.
The purpose of the Christian Academy of Martial arts andCombat Kumdo is to raise up the next generation of Christian martial artists who can impact the world by showing Christs character, love, peace and patience in any situation and all people.
We focus on Christ's character and not our own. We set aside our ego, show compassion to our fellow students, and show appreciation for the differences that make us all unique children of God.
We focus on application and real-world scenarios. We set aside the "flash" and focus on what works. Our instructors and head of system are bounty hunters, train active military, police and correction officers - what we teach - works in the field...
